December 16, 2015 - Ready - Set - Scan

It has been one year since my double mastectomy and nine months since completing chemotherapy and it is scan time. I arrived early so I could slowly sip my lovely "vanilla chalk cocktail" before the test! lol. The taste is actually not that bad - it's all part of my unexpected journey. "Scanxiety" is real but it didn't come calling on me this time! I jumped up on the table and watched as a needle was placed in my arm and felt all warm and flushed as the contrast flowed freely through my veins. I kept my smile as I rode into the scanner and watched the chasing red ribbons of light going in a circle around me. It was over so quickly and Ricky and I left for a special holiday school lunch with a very special student named Ava!
Chelsey, Ricky and I enjoyed a delicious turkey and dressing lunch. Poor Ava was so hungry she could not wait to "dig in!" She is her mother's child! lol. As I sat there watching Ava eat and remembering the way her little face "lit up" when she rounded the corner and saw the three of us gave me one of those "money can't buy" overjoyed feelings! Retiring early has "too many to count" bonuses and this is one of the sweeter ones!
We ended the day attending Ava's Christmas Concert. She was so pretty in her new Christmas green top with matching choker necklace as she played her recorder! All of the kids were amazing as they played Jingle Bells, Little Drummer Boy, Mary had a Little Lamb and no concert is complete without hearing Hot Cross Buns! It was a great way to wrap up the night!
Back to the scans I had earlier today, I received a call about 4pm from Dr. Mitchell's office to tell me that my scans were clear and no evidence of cancer anywhere in my body! I am so unbelievably thankful to God above! This is another one of those "money can't buy" feelings! Thank you and I need and appreciate all of your prayers and kind thoughts as I travel this unexpected journey!
